The Global Health Institute (GHI) at AUB signed a Memorandum of Understanding outlining a framework of strategic collaboration with the Humanitarian Leadership Academy (HLA), a global learning initiative that enables people around the world to effectively prepare for and respond to crises.

Under this agreement, the GHI, through its GHI Academy, will deliver essential humanitarian capacity-building assessments and tools to HLA by piloting research, structuring learning pathways, and developing contextualized content through innovative learning modules such as online courses (e-learning, toolkits, case studies, facilitation guides), offline learning (session plans and resources), and blended learning.  It will target humanitarian response organizations and teams, volunteers, and other technical specialists in humanitarian action, either through new or existing content.

The GHI Academy is the capacity-building arm of GHI which aims at supporting the needs of individuals, organizations, and communities through an innovative delivery of knowledge, training, and professional development.

“The framework of collaboration with HLA will initiate a strategic path that fulfills one of our goals as GHI, which is generating contextual knowledge and contextualizing global humanitarian tools and skills,” said Dr. Shadi Saleh, Associate Vice President for Health Affairs at AUB and Founding Director of GHI.

“The activities will be coordinated by our GHI Academy, the capacity-building arm of GHI, and will engage AUB experts from different units, in addition to other Lebanese, regional, and international experts. We look forward to working with HLA towards having a sustainable impact on the global humanitarian response community,” he added.

Signing the agreement on August 4 with Dr. Saleh at the GHI offices was Brigitte Khair-Mountain, Director of the Middle East Academy Centre of HLA based in Amman, Jordan.
“The agreement with such a prestigious academic institution as AUB will identify research and case studies on best practices across the humanitarian sector,” Khair-Mountain said.

GHI addresses global health challenges with a focus on context-specific issues and sustainable impact by employing an interdisciplinary approach. It is part of AUB’s Health 2025 Vision, which aims to strategically and functionally align the health portfolio at AUB to better serve the health needs of the population in the MENA region, the Global South, and beyond.
